Licence to erect, alter and dismantle Scaffolding Basic level - CPCCLSF2001

Basic Scaffolding Ticket Course Overview

This unit specifies the outcomes required to erect, alter and dismantle scaffolding at the basic level, consisting of scaffolding work connected with the operation or use of modular or pre-fabricated scaffolds, cantilevered materials hoists with a maximum working load of 500kg, ropes and gin wheels, safety nets and static lines, and bracket scaffolds (tank and formwork) for licensing purposes.

This unit covers the scope of work to plan the job, select and inspect equipment, set up task, erect scaffold and scaffold equipment and dismantle scaffold and scaffold equipment. This unit is based upon the National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work.

This unit in its current form meets state and territory licensing requirements. Any alteration will result in a unit which is not acceptable to regulators for the purpose of licensing.

This is a 5-day intensive training and assessment course. Participants will attend on all days to complete theory, practical training and assessment with our qualified trainer and assessor. On successful completion of this course, participants will be able to apply for a HIGH-RISK SCAFFOLDING BASIC (SB) Licence.

This basic scaffolding course option is suitable for participants without access to a workplace to gain experience, or workplaces who don’t have the resources to supervise staff while gaining nominal hours. If at any time during the course the assessor recognises the need for the participant to complete gap training, participants will be given their logbook to gain nominal hours in the workplace prior to attending an assessment.

On successful completion of this course, participants will be able to apply for a High Risk Work Scaffolding Basic SB Licence. There are costs associated with applying for the licence. Please visit www.worksafe.qld.gov.au for current licence fees.

Basic Scaffolding Licence Application

This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to safely perform basic scaffolding work.

Scaffolding work involves erecting, altering or dismantling a temporary structure to support a platform from which a person or object could fall more than four metres.

This unit applies to scaffolding work involving:

  • Modular or prefabricated scaffolds
  • Cantilevered materials hoists with a maximum working load of 500 kg
  • Ropes
  • Gin wheels
  • Safety nets and static lines
  • Bracket scaffolds (tank and formwork).

Scaffolding work is undertaken in construction and other industries where temporary structures are erected, altered and dismantled.

Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying carry out construction work. Achievement of CPCCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.

Competence in this unit does not in itself result in a licence. A licence is obtained after competence is assessed under applicable Commonwealth, state or territory work health and safety (WHS) regulations.

Please note: Competence in a unit does not in itself result in a licence.

Once the trainer believes the participant has demonstrated theoretical and practical understanding of the chosen course (i.e ‘Unit of Competency’, in this case 'Licence to erect, alter and dismantle Scaffolding Basic level - CPCCLSF2001'), this will be verified with a certificate or what’s known as a ‘Statement of Attainment’ from us, On the Job Training.

In order to obtain a SB licence, the candidate, after successful completion of the unit of competency, can choose to participate in the theoretical and practical assessments known as ‘National Assessment Instruments’ (NAI) held at the conclusion of each course at On the Job Training. This is conducted by an assessor on behalf of Workplace Health & Safety Queensland. On successful completion of the mandated assessments, they will be issued with a ‘Candidate Assessment Summary’ (CAS) by On the Job Training.

Upon successful completion of the NAI as stated above, the Office of Industrial Relations Queensland will contact them with instructions on how to apply for the SB high risk work licence.

For more information about costs associated with the chosen licence visit the Workplace Health & Safety website.
