CSQ FUNDING 2024-25

Are you eligible for CSQ funding in 2024-25?

Who is eligible:

1. Residency, Age and Employment Status:

• Australian or New Zealand citizens
• Permanent residents
• Visa holders with permission to work and study in Australia and been employed in the Queensland Building & Construction Industry for 6 months (does not include International Student Visas)
• Aged 15 years or older (please note you must be 18 years or older to obtain any high risk work licence)

2. Employment Criteria:

• Must be employed by a business or self-employed and substantially engaged in the Queensland building and construction industry, OR:
• Unemployed for no more than 6 months who would otherwise meet the eligibility criteria

3. Types of Workers:

Employees and Self-employed Workers:

Those substantially engaged in either:

• Construction, significant renovations, and extensions of residential and commercial buildings
• Installation services for interiors of residential and commercial buildings in associated trades (e.g electrical, plumbing, flooring, etc)
• Working on a CSQ designated Major Project involving infrastructure construction

Civil Construction Workers:

Those substantially engaged in either:

• Land development and site preparation for the purpose of construction
• Civil infrastructure works
• Working on a CSQ designated Major Project involving infrastructure construction

Who is not eligible:

Specific Groups:

• Employees of an Authority or participants who are not employed in the Queensland building and construction industry
• Local council workers not substantially engaged in specified building and construction work in Queensland
• Apprentices and trainees that don’t meet the criteria of an ‘eligible worker’ as per criteria above
• Consultants, supply chain workers, international students, RTO employees and contracted trainer or assessors
• Those already funded by an Authority or other source for the same training (with the exception of Bert or other sources covering ‘out of pocket’ / gap fees)
• Participants seeking a verification of competency
• Participants enrolled and participating in a Queensland secondary school program

How many CSQ funded short courses can you access?

In this current CSQ short course program 2024-25* contract period, an eligible participant will only be able to access a total of 8 funded short courses. There is also a stipulation of how many types of courses or ‘units’ a participant can access:

• Up to a maximum of 3 HRW units only, with exception of Asbestos units (e.g HRW units beginning with CPCC or TLIC)
• Up to a maximum 3 MPO units only (e.g. machine plant operator units beginning with code RIIMPO)

A single participant can access other short courses that are listed below, such as Work Safely at Heights (RIIWHS204E) or Operate Elevating Work Platform (RIIHAN301E) but must not exceed more than 8 units of competency in the CSQ Short Course 2024-25 Program*.

Please note: It’s important that a single participant does not exceed the maximum number of training units of competency during the 2024-25 CSQ funding period, as the participant (or their employer) will be liable for the full fee incurred for training of any and all extra units of competency above the maximum allowed. 

* Any units completed before 30 Sept 2024 do not count toward this current training program period.

What are some examples of HRW, TLIC and MPO units?

• CPCCLDG3001 – Licence to perform dogging
• CPCCLRG3001 – Licence to perform rigging basic level
• CPCCLTC4001 – Licence to operate a tower crane

TLIC – part of the beginning of a unit of competency’s course code, these are also HRW units that result in the participant being able to apply for a relevant licence Examples:

• TLILIC0013 – Licence to operate a slewing mobile crane (up to 60 tonnes)
• TLILIC0020 – Licence to operate a slewing mobile crane (up to and over 100 tonnes)

MPO – these units of competency are machine plant operator courses that do not result in a licensed outcome. Upon successful completion the participant is issued with a certificate officially known as a Statement of Attainment and a card issued by the RTO that can be taken on site as proof of competence. Examples:

• RIIMPO317F – Conduct roller operations
• RIIMPO320F – Conduct civil construction excavator operations
• RIIMPO318F – Conduct skid steer loader operations
