Why get an excavator ticket? According to the 2022 Major Project Pipeline Report, there is $71 billion worth of project infrastructure work planned in the next 5 years in Queensland alone. That is going to require moving a lot of dirt! Much of this work is being conducted in SEQ, with projects such as the GC Light Rail extension and the Coomera Connector.

Not only will you learn how to plan and prepare for excavator operations, but you will also get hands-on training in lifting, carrying, and placing materials. Your acquired skills will make you invaluable in fields such as construction, roadworks, and earthworks. The course includes mandatory assessments that adhere to strict industry standards, ensuring you are job-ready.
Learn in a simulated construction site but a controlled environment, at our training yard at Stapylton. Off the M1, Yatala North exit halfway between the Gold Coast and Brisbane near the end of the Logan Motorway.

Excavator Ticket Course Overview
Application
This excavator ticket course equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to operate excavators for lifting, carrying, and placing materials in a construction setting. It is particularly suitable for individuals working in site-based roles. Please note that licensing, legislation, and certification may vary by location.
Elements and Performance Criteria
- Plan and Prepare for Excavator Operations: Understand and apply excavator documentation, identify hazards, and implement safety measures.
- Operate Excavator: Learn pre-start checks, fault identification, and safe operational techniques.
- Lift, Carry, and Place Materials: Master the skill of establishing load weight and ensuring safe and effective material shift.
- Attachments for Excavator: Select, fit, and use the appropriate attachments, from tilt buckets to rock breakers.
- Prepare to Relocate Excavator: Learn the procedures to safely move the excavator between work areas.
- Conduct Housekeeping Activities: Conclude by clearing the work area and handling documentation according to workplace procedures.
Foundation Skills
Reading: Interprets workplace documents, policies, and procedures.
Numeracy: Understands equipment operating capacity and confirms safe weight load limits.
Knowledge Evidence
- Policies and procedures related to excavator operations
- Factors affecting work activities
- Key features associated with civil construction works
Performance Evidence
- Prestart checks and shutdown procedures
- Driving and operating the excavator, with techniques adjusted to site conditions
- Conducting operations using different material types, including but not limited to: loading, cutting/boxing, stripping/spreading, bulk excavation, trench excavation, stockpiling, and more.
- Selecting, fitting, testing, and removing at least three different certified attachments, such as tilt buckets, lifting devices, compaction wheels, etc.
- Assisting with loading and unloading of the excavator from float/trailer
- Parking and securing equipment
Assessment Conditions
The course includes access to excavators, attachments, and personal protective equipment, and must be conducted in a safe environment.
Pre-requisite for this Excavator Ticket Course
- Provide 100 Points of identification (as per Workplace Health and Safety Queensland requirements)
- Ability to read, write & understand English
What to Bring
- Provide 100 Points of identification (as per Workplace Health and Safety Queensland requirements)
- Steel cap Boots
- Safety gloves
- Hi-Visibility shirt and hard hat with a brim
- Suitable outdoor work clothing (no singlets)
- Lunch and water bottle
- If applicable, any evidence of prior experience e.g old certificates
- USI Number (Find My USI)
Additional Information
Course days typically run from 6.30am to approximately 3.00pm - Participants are advised to arrive 15 minutes early to sign in.
*Please note you may be required to start before 6.30am and stay after 3.00pm depending on course timings.
