According to the 2022 Major Project Pipeline Report, there is $71 billion worth of project infrastructure work planned in the next 5 years in Queensland alone.  That is going to require moving a lot of dirt!  Much of this work is being conducted in SEQ, with projects such as the GC Light Rail extension and the Coomera Connector.

Train for this front end loader ticket, in a simulated construction site but a controlled environment, at our training yard at Stapylton. Off the M1, Yatala North exit halfway between the Gold Coast and Brisbane near the end of the Logan Motorway.

Front end loader ticket course overview*

The unit is tailored for individuals working in site-based roles and focuses on competencies in planning, operating, material handling, and housekeeping activities related to wheeled front-end loaders.

Application

This unit applies to workers on construction sites. It specifies that licensing, regulatory, and certification requirements can vary by jurisdiction so seek state specific authorities prior to applying this unit . To load and unload equipment safely, personnel must also complete or assist someone who has completed the unit "RIIHAN308F Load and unload plant or equivalent."

Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and Prepare for Operations
- Work documentation, risk assessment, selecting personal protective equipment (PPE), emergency procedures, etc.

2. Operate Front-End Loader
- Pre-start checks, identifying and rectifying faults, adapting to changing conditions, etc.

3. Material Handling
- Assessing load weight, using appropriate lifting gear, safely moving materials, etc.

4. Relocate Loader
- Preparing and moving the loader, assisting in loading/unloading from trailers, etc.

5. Conduct Housekeeping Activities
- Clearing work area, reporting hazards, managing documentation, etc.

Foundation Skills

The unit specifies essential foundation skills like reading and numeracy, emphasising their application in real-world scenarios like interpreting documentation and confirming safe weight load limits.

Assessment Requirements

The assessment criteria demand that candidates demonstrate practical skills and theoretical knowledge across a range of scenarios and conditions. Knowledge Evidence

Candidates must demonstrate a deep understanding of key policies, procedures, legislation, and the factors affecting work activities, as well as familiarity with civil construction terms, basic earthworks calculations, and sequences in road construction, earthworks, and drainage.

Performance Evidence:

To be deemed competent, candidates must show proficiency in various tasks like prestart checks, driving, adjusting techniques, and safe operation across different conditions and material types.

Overall, this unit is comprehensive in its scope, covering both practical and theoretical aspects to equip candidates with the skills and knowledge required to safely and efficiently operate a wheeled front-end loader in civil construction settings.

What to Bring

  • Provide 100 Points of identification (as per Workplace Health and Safety Queensland requirements)
  • Steel cap Boots
  • Safety gloves
  • Hi-Visibility shirt and hard hat with a brim
  • Suitable outdoor work clothing (no singlets)
  • Lunch and water bottle
  • If applicable, any evidence of prior experience e.g old certificates
  • USI Number (Find My USI)

Additional Information

Course days typically run from 6.30am to approximately 3.00pm - Participants are advised to arrive 15 minutes early to sign in.

Please note you may be required to start before 6.30am and stay after 3.00pm depending on course timings.

* This front end loader ticket course can optionally be clustered with the 'Conduct operations with integrated tool carrier - RIIHAN311F' unit of competency, as practical training will be conducted on this type of machine plant.
