Application

This unit is aimed at individuals working in site-based roles, specifically in the coal and metalliferous mining sectors. It focuses on imparting the skills and knowledge required to operate an integrated tool carrier effectively and safely. To load and unload equipment safely, personnel must also complete or assist someone who has completed the unit "RIIHAN308F Load and unload plant or equivalent."

Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Plan and Prepare: This element focuses on interpreting tool carrier documentation, confirming work requirements, and selecting appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  2. Operate the Carrier: Emphasises pre-start checks, identifying faults, and practical operation techniques. It also involves communication with dogmen to ensure proper lifting and securing of loads.
  3. Relocate the Carrier: Covers the protocols and requirements for safely moving the integrated tool carrier between different worksites.
  4. Use Attachments: Teaches you how to select, fit, test, and remove various attachments for different work activities.
  5. Conduct Housekeeping Activities: Explains how to maintain a clean and safe work environment, manage hazards, and handle documentation.

Foundation Skills

  • Reading: Interpretation of workplace procedures, documentation, and regulations.
  • Numeracy: Skill in using equipment operating schedules to confirm safe weight load limits.

Performance Evidence

You must demonstrate the ability to conduct operations that follow workplace procedures safely and effectively. This involves pre-start checks, fault identification, equipment operation, and load handling. You’ll also be required to coordinate with dogmen for securing and stabilising loads and equipment.

Knowledge Evidence

You’ll need to demonstrate an understanding of key policies, safe operating techniques, and factors affecting work activities. These include but are not limited to emergency procedures, maintenance protocols, and work health and safety regulations.

Assessment Conditions

The unit demands a safe training environment, access to real or simulated integrated tool carriers, and personal protective equipment. Assessment must also align with relevant legislation and industry-specific manuals.

  • Steel cap Boots
  • Safety gloves
  • Hi-Visibility shirt and hard hat with a brim
  • Suitable outdoor work clothing (no singlets)
  • Lunch and water bottle
  • If applicable, any evidence of prior experience e.g old certificates
  • USI Number (Find My USI)

Course days typically run from 6.30am to approximately 3.00pm - Participants are advised to arrive 15 minutes early to sign in.

Please note you may be required to start before 6.30am and stay after 3.00pm depending on course timings.
